Extra Slackware packages / user contributed package directory _____________________________________________________________ These are some extra packages that might be handy. Use 'pkgtool' to install or remove these from your system. These can also be installed with 'installpkg'. Anyone who wants to contribute a package to this directory should send me mail at: volkerdi@ftp.cdrom.com. The package must install cleanly, and must include a description to be added to this index (in which you can feel free to give yourself some credit). As of version 2.0.0, Slackware contains an easy to use package creation tool called 'makepkg' that can be used to make the package. I don't offer any support for these packages. :^) Some of these long package names may cause unsightly wrap-around in the color pkgtool's package removal menu, but it should still work ok. -- Pat ________________________ rescue.gz: This is a bootable rootdisk based on the 1.1.21 Linux kernel with all the standard drivers, and all the Linux filesystems including umsdos. It's got all the debugging and repair utilities for these filesystems, vim, and man pages for many of the included utilities. This is a compressed 1.44 MB disk image -- uncompress it and write it to a floppy. You'll need 8 MB minimum to use this; the disk self boots and then uncompresses a 2560K ext2 root filesystem into a ramdisk. It boots/loads much faster than the bootdisks that use LILO, too. :^) aps-23.tgz: Andreas Klemm's Apsfilter-2.3. aps-2 is an lineprinter input filter for Unix Systems with Berkeley alike printing system (configuration using /etc/printcap). Main features are AUTOMATIC FILE TYPE RECOGNITION for the filetypes: * ASCII * DATA * POSTSCRIPT * DVI * gcl.tgz: GNU Common Lisp 1.0. auis63L0-*.tgz: Packages from the Andrew User Interface System, put together for Linux by Terry Gliedt. lemacs.tgz: This is Lucid Emacs version 19.10 (also known as xemacs) lynx-2.3+term.tgz: A beta version of lynx for TERM. uucp-1.04.tgz: The Taylor UUCP 1.04 package that was included with Slackware 1.2.0. Some people might still want to use this. The UUCP package on disk n1 was upgraded to version 1.05, but that hasn't been tested (well, not by me) so this is included just-in-case[tm]. ncurses-181.tgz: In case anyone wants to keep using this version... ncurses-185.tgz: This is a "stock" version without any of the custom patches that were added for Slackware. Some purists may prefer to use this, but I think they'll be taking their chances... ;^) manpagesrc.tgz: This is groff source for all of the manpages in Slackware. mc-0.8.tgz: MouseLess Commander 0.8. A Norton Commander type program. Nice. :^) ksh.tgz: A public domain version of the Korn shell. NOTE: This was moved out of the main distribution because pdksh has had trouble with redirection since upgrading to libc-4.5.x. If anyone works on the source and gets it functioning correctly again, I'd like to put it back in again. In the meantime, I suggest people who used this shell try out zsh, which was added to Slackware to fill the gap. gpc-2.5.7.tgz: A beta version of gpc, the GNU Pascal compiler. perl-5.00a.tgz: An ALPHA version of Perl 5.00. gnat-1.79.tgz: The GNU Ada compiler, 1.79. Requires GCC 2.5.8. ________________________
